Global Gringo's Travel Pro-Tip: Never marinate your clothes in your shampoo again!

Anyone who's had to travel for an overnight has more than likely taken some sort of liquid with them. Be it shampoo, conditioner, lotion, sunscreen, etc, it almost always comes in some sort of squeeze bottle with a pop top lid on it.

While this type of packaging works flawlessly sitting idly by the sink or in the shower, it doesn't do so well when packed into a bag and I can think of few worse surprises while out on the road than finding out that my clothes have been drenched in my shampoo because the bottle got squeezed too tightly at some point during the journey. Here's an easy way to avoid having your work shirts or underpants go through a 'head and shoulders' marination while you travel as well as do a little bit of recycling in the process..

First off, I didn't invent this tip. I've seen it in a few different places over the years. However, I've been using it every time we've traveled over the past three and a half months and I can say with great confidence that it works. Therefore, I want to pass it on to whoever is interested. Feel free to share it with your friends/family/colleagues/significant other(s).

1) Starting with a regular bottle of whatever you're taking with you, screw off the cap and put it to the side.

2) Take any plastic bag you have laying around that you wouldn't mind putting in your suitcase (i.e. one that hasn't been compromised by something you don't want going inside your luggage in the first place.

3) Take the plastic and put it over the opening of the hole.

4) Screw the cap back on like you normally would.

And Voila! You've successfully secured your liquid from ruining your clothes. If you don't have a plastic bag (although if you're traveling southeast Asia that wouldn't be an issue for you), you can use Saran wrap instead.   Happy travels!
